Welcome to Anglia Ruskin University London

Anglia Ruskin’s story starts in 1858, when the art critic, patron and philanthropist John Ruskin opened Cambridge School of Art. The art school grew to become Anglia Ruskin University, and it’s still at the heart of their modern-day campus in Cambridge.

Over the years, a number of colleges and institutes have become part of Anglia Ruskin. They include the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology (CCAT) and the Essex Institute of Higher Education (formerly the Chelmer Institute – itself formed from the Mid-Essex Technical College and the Brentwood College of Education). At first, these colleges combined to become Anglia Polytechnic, and then Anglia Polytechnic University in 1992. They’ve been known as Anglia Ruskin University since 2005.

London campuses

Founded in 2000, ARU London offers a range of courses leading to academic and professional qualifications that help their students to successful careers in business, management and accountancy. Their campus is based in the City of London, on the corner of Charterhouse Street and Farringdon Road. They're currently home to 2,000 students from all over the world, and their ethos is simple: to provide competitively priced, top-quality business education that's relevant to employers' needs.

Originally, they prepared students for professional accountancy exams but since 2007 they've been expanding their range of courses. They now offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in subjects including Business and Human Resource Management, Law, Finance and Accounting, and International Marketing. They know that practical skills and real-world experience are valuable to you. For that reason, they timetable their classes to give you the chance to undertake part-time work that's relevant to your future career – and their lecturers have first-hand experience of business. They're proud to have twice won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recent years. The Award recognises organisations that have made outstanding contributions to enterprise culture in the UK.

Anglia Ruskin today

They’ve seen lots of changes in the last 157 years, but one thing has remained the same. They’re still passionate about the advancement of knowledge and the education of students.

Today, they’re one of the largest universities in the East of England, with 35,000 students from 177 countries. they’re well regarded for the quality of their teaching and support – with industry-recognised courses, inspiring tutors, and an award-winning Student Services Team.

They’re also known for being welcoming and inclusive. They feel strongly that people from all walks of life should be able to study at university and gain the skills to go into whatever career they choose. And so they’ve invested more than £8 million supporting students who may not otherwise have been able to afford to go to university, or who wouldn’t have considered it as an option. It’s one of the biggest investments by any English university.

They’re proud to display the ‘two ticks’ symbol, and to be a Stonewall Diversity Champion and a Mindful Employer. Their students’ happiness and wellbeing is really important to us. As well as their Student Services Team, they have a thriving and active Students’ Union which oversees 140 clubs and societies, and a student volunteering programme. They also launched their Sport and Active Anglia program in 2011, to give all of us – students and staff – lots of opportunities to keep fit and healthy.
